Crypto scams are emerging as the market becomes more popular. Picol encourages users to be cautious and take the necessary actions to protect themselves from falling victim to these scams.
Common cryptocurrency scams
Scammers are using new ways to find their next target, we therefore, recommend you to stay alert to possible scams at all times. Here are some common examples:
Scammer on Twitter
Scammers are constantly impersonating official Picol Twitter accounts by replying to our tweets, posting their own tweets, or even direct messaging Twitter users.
We will never ask you to do anything that seems suspicious, such as deposit your assets into a specific address in return for gifts or a chance to multiply your assets.
You will lose your assets if you do this!
Scammer on Telegram
If you’ve experienced a problem or issue, you should submit a support ticket or chat with the Support team through the Live chat on Picol. The chat is currently available on the Picol mobile app or our official website https://www.picol.com/en/.
1. Fake lotteries and giveaway
Scammers may pretend to be from the Picol team and ask you to send funds to an unknown wallet address as part of a lottery or giveaway. Never send funds to any unknown address. Blockchain transactions cannot be reversed once confirmed. You might not be able to recover your funds.
2. Impersonating official Telegram handles
Scammers may impersonate official Picol Telegram handles or pretend to be persons you know. For example, they may mix upper and lowercase letters in their usernames to make them look extremely similar to genuine ones. Always verify the identity of the other party you are talking to before sharing any personal information. If you wish to speak to Picol customer service, please use the Live Chat function on the official Picol website.
3. Liquidity mining scams
Scammers may contact you on Telegram offering profitable liquidity mining opportunities. Typically, they will direct you to a website with fake profit data to convince you to invest. Once you connect your wallet or transfer funds to the website’s wallet, scammers will drain your assets from your account.
Phishing attack
Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to obtain sensitive information, such as your username, password, and 2FA code, by disguising it as Picol emails, fake websites and social media accounts, instant messages, etc. Phishing attack protection requires effort by both users and Picol. Here are some of the steps you can take to protect yourself:
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), such as Google Authenticator and SMS. Never disclose your secret keys to anyone or on any website;
Always upgrade your browser to the latest version as it will warn users of phishing or unsafe high-risk websites;
Always log in to Picol through the official website. We also recommend you check and verify whether the domain name is *.picol.com/en/
If you attempt to input any account information on the fake website, please reset your Picol account password immediately.
Fake law enforcement messages
Scammers might also impersonate law enforcement authorities and ask you to take immediate action, or your account will be frozen. For example, they would say that your account has received funds from illegal sources and is being investigated for money laundering. You will be asked to disclose sensitive information about your account or transfer funds to the scammer’s account to “verify” your identity. When you receive these messages, do not reply or disclose your account information. Please note that law enforcement authorities will not contact you directly on the grounds that your account is at risk of money laundering, nor ask for your password or make a transfer to unknown accounts.
Security Tips
Whitelist Picol email addresses
And most importantly, you should:
- Never share your password with anyone;
- Never return any calls from someone claiming to be a Picol employee or Picol Support team;
- Never send money to anyone claiming to be a Picol employee;
- Enable Two Factor Authentication (Google Authenticator, SMS Authentication).
